We were finally able to work it out to go to the downtown Phoenix Holiday Light Parade. Melanie & her girls came along too. It was so much fun! Cael was absolutely in awe of all the beautiful floats, lights, bands, balloons, etc! I would much rather be watching in Phoenix weather vs. the Midwest. No offense! What a fun family bonding opportunity!

It's funny how your priorities surrounding the Holidays change when you have kids. I never truly appreciated how cool inflatable Christmas figures could be until I had Cael! As you can see, he insisted on holding the snowman and penquin's hands for the picture. He was over the top excited about our small outdoor display! Halloween 2009

Cael was Dumbo for Halloween this year and aside from the nose, which was a traumatic experience as you can see by the photo, he enjoyed the outfit and participating in the festivities. He especially had fun trick-or-treating in our small community and pointing out all the pumpkins, spiders, and ghosts! He seemed puzzled by the whole thing, but had a great time! :)

Fall Break

Grandma and Grandpa Willms were able to come out to Phoenix during Fall Break for a long weekend. Cael got to go to the Arizona State Fair, Zoo, and Encanto Park amongst other things. He is at that age where every new experience is an adventure! It was so much fun!

We moved into a new home the beginning of August. It has a beautiful grassy backyard that Cael loves and it's all one level. We didn't realize how much energy we expended running up and down 3 levels until now. It is really nice! Moving in August in Phoenix wasn't so fun, but we managed! :)

Sorry it's been SO long since my last post. The past month has flown by! Cael is growing like crazy, getting much more adventurous, and getting lots more bumps & bruises. He was up all night vomiting last night, and I am not feeling so well today, so sadly I actually have time to blog due to being sick. We chose to wait with the CT scan as Cael would have had to be sedated, and we truly feel there are no concerns. I take him next week to have it measured again. We had the pleasure of going back to Ohio in early May to celebrate Oluf's 75th and Betty's 70th birthdays and then then came out to visit us May 14th-19th. Cael really enjoyed spending time with his grandma and grandpa! They especially liked to hear him lecture to them and watch him dance! He is hilarious!

So we went to the doctor on Monday.....

Height: 31.5"
Head: 20".......2.5 standard deviations above the curve or in other words off the charts. My son officially has a medical diagnosis and he has to get a CT scan. I am sure everything is normal....he just has an abnormally large head. Must be that HUGE brain developing in there!

I can hardly believe that 1 year ago we brought home our precious little baby boy.....he is so big and independent now! We had a fun birthday party for him at a park near our house. It was cold and cloudy, rained shortly after our Easter Egg hunt, and his cake got a little wet, but he had a blast! It was a fun time despite the weather!

I literally left the kitchen for 20 s to put something in our office and this is what I came back to! Cael had pulled open our spice rack, opened the cinnamon, and proceeded to shake it all over the place! I immediately put him in the bath, but his skin had an allergic reaction to the cinnamon! This week has been pretty interesting! Cael figured out how to climb our steps using the railing, walking up them by himself and then later walked up a set of stairs on ASU campus this evening. We went as a family to a WorldVision exhibit on AIDS through the life of a child in Africa.....it was an amazing, life-changing experience!

Grandma and Grandpa Willms came to visit during Spring Break and Cael had a full schedule of fun....They went to the Chihuly exhibit at Desert Botanical garden, the Children's Museum, the Horse Races, for a horse ride at the ranch, to the park, shopping and playing at IKEA, you name it! Cael became very good at signing "WANT" "Bye-Bye"! What a fun week he had! Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Cael and I had such a fun day today! He is growing up so fast! He tries to kick everything across the floor & often ends up falling on his butt when he attempts to stand on one foot while contacting random objects with his other foot.......it doesn't phase him, he just keeps on trying! He is signing more and all done; making pig noises on cue; doing paddy-cake; waving hello and goodbye; and doing his own version of blowing kisses.........What a joy Cael is in our lives!

As a pediatric physical therapist, I have never seen a child decide to take off across the room walking because they wanted to kick an object across the room. I think that Cael has some of his grandpa Oluf's innate soccer skills.....he took off kicking this block across the room last Wednesday night and he has been walking ever since! Boy has our world changed....thus the lapse of time since my last post! Paul is thrilled as his dream for Cael to become an NFL punter seems closer to reality!!!

Cael loves his new carseat!!! On Monday 1/12 he went for his 9 month check up and got his first shot....the DTap. He is off the charts for head size, 99th percentile for height and 75-90th percentile for weight. He was 22 lbs, almost 30 inches long and his head was 19.5 inches. He is growing up so fast!

We had a wonderful Christmas back in Iowa!!! Cael had just started crawling before we left and during the week in between Christmas & New Years Day, he crawled all over the place, pulled to stand a thousand times, began cruising, stood alone in the middle of the room for up to 60s and he took 3 steps to mom......he was determined to move, especially being around his 15 month old cousin Adalyn!

Cael said "Da Da" over and over tonight at bedtime after some fun rough-housing with daddy. As you can see, he is growing like crazy!!! He pulled up to his knees from a sitting position in his crib....oh boy, do we have a lot of baby proofing to do!! Paul graciously took care of Cael all by himself last weekend as I was in Conneticut at a conference.......he must have missed mommy during the Iowa game! :)

On Sunday October 12th, we went to a Pumpkin Farm near to the Wisconsin Dells and took Cael on his first horse-drawn hayride to pick out a pumpkin. The weather was gorgeous!!!

We made a trip back to Iowa and Wisconsin for 2 weddings, the first of which was Paul's friend Jeremy Samuelson and secondly for our friends Adam & Michelle who got married at the Wisconsin Dells. Grandma and Grandpa were excited to babysit. Cael also traveled with me to Pella, where I spoke with college students about the profession of pediatric PT. He hung out with my cousin Tyler who attends Central College while I presented. We also made a drive to see Great-Grandma Jeanette. All in all, it was a wonderful trip as you will see by all the beautiful pictures. Grandma attempted some great 6 month old photos in Cael's Halloween costume (horse) with some black cows in the background. Cael loved being outdoors, seeing the cows, and having Grandma and Grandpa babysit. He has 2 teeth now, he is scooting across the floor, and he started eating baby food. So far, we haven't met a vegetable that he doesn't like!

It's crazy to think that 1 year ago today I was in the hospital and Paul & I had been thru a scare that we lost the baby, had an ectopic pregnancy, then the possibility that I was pregnant with twins......and now we have Cael!! Road Trip

Last weekend we went to San Diego for our friends Sarah and John's wedding on the beach. My friend Melanie, her husband, and 4 daughters traveled with Paul, myself, Cael, and 2 babysitters......it was quite the trip! We hit Sea World, the beach, the wedding, and found out just how difficult it is to go on a road trip with a 4 month old! Cael LOVED the beach! He was elated when he was watching the waves and everytime I turned around he instantly got upset! He even took a good nap on the sand!

It has been an extremely long time since I have posted. I apologize!!! These past few weeks have flown by. Cael started going to his nanny Betty's house the week of August 4th and he loves her! They have bonded extremely well and he is so happy to see her always! He is holding his own bottle, rolling all over the place, so much more visually attentive, laughing a lot, and playing peek-a-boo! We are having so much fun! As you can see, still teething, but no teeth to show for it yet!

Cael so enjoyed being outdoors and meeting his Kongshaug aunts, uncles, and cousins. He talked a lot with them and even mimicked some of Riesa's sounds! Cael has thoroughly mastered extension on his tummy and just this week started pulling his legs up in the air...he has figured out how to use his abs!...he mostly does this on his changing table looking at his sailboat mobile. We have found that we can calm him instantly with these boats....he absolutely loves them! He also discovered himself in the mirror the other night. He smiled and when his reflection smiled back he giggled! It is so fun to see his personality continue to emerge! Here are a few photos!

At Cael's 2 month appointment on Friday he weighed 12.5 lbs. and he was nearly 24" long. He is around the 75th% for weight, height, and head size. As you will see by his pictures, he LOVES tummy time and he is holding his head up very well. He loves his bath and his play time with Daddy. We are looking forward to celebrating Father's Day tomorrow!

Morgan has been a tremendous help this week! I couldn't have done it without her. Cael has been more fussy than usual as he is having to eat formula while I am on antibiotics. He loves his Morgan though as you can see by the pictures. We took him swimming for the first time the other night and he seemed to like the water. What a cute swimming outfit, huh?

Cael will be 2 months old this Wednesday! We picked my cousin Morgan up from the airport last Thursday and already she has been a tremendous help! I got sick over the weekend with a fever, sore throat, and congestion. Cael has really bonded with Morgan already and it is so nice to know he is in good hands when I have to leave. Here are a few updated pictures. We will go to Cael's 2 months doctor's appointment on Friday. I can't wait to find out how big he is now!

Sick Day

You wouldn't believe it from these pictures but we spent our first night in ER with Cael. Paul was sick on Monday with a fever and sore throat and Cael got a virus also. He had a low-grade fever all day yesterday and it spiked to 101.8 last night so we took him in. He had to have a blood draw, chest x-ray, and urine sample via catheter....he was a champ thru all of it. Everything was negative, so we have been treating it with lots of love and a little tylenol. I gladly stayed home to cuddle with him today. He has been very fussy, but he smiled big for Daddy before he left for work this morning!

Cael has changed so much this week! He is smiling socially, making new sounds, and communicating what he wants with very specific grunts and cries. He is much more aware of his surroundings and he is more awake and alert throughout the day. He rolled from his tummy to his back during a nap and last night he slept in his crib for the first time......I can't believe how fast he is growing and changing! He finally loves to take his bath!

Cael's Baptism

Cael was baptized at Alleluia Lutheran Church on Sunday May 4th. Pastor Lee Meyer read the liturgy and Grandpa Oluf baptized him. It was very special. We hosted 100 people for lunch at the church afterwards including church members, family and friends, and a visiting confirmation class. Cael slept peacefully through the entire service! We had professional pictures taken that morning, so we will have more pictures to come later! What a special day it was! Pastor Lee delivered a beautiful sermon about how God sends his message of love and forgiveness "wrapped in a person" and tied it to Cael's baptism!

On Monday Cael was up to 7 lbs. 8 oz...he is nearly back up to his birth weight which is good. The jaundice is slowly fading, and he is growing every day. It's been really fun to see his personality emerge and see him especially smile and interact with his daddy....he loves playing with him! His umbilical cord stump fell off Monday afternoon and his cirumcision is nearly healed as well, so we are a much happier baby and enjoying bath time! He has been cooperating with mom's tummy time routine as well!

One Week Old!!!

I can't believe that one week ago today our little peanut was born! He has changed so much already. We went to the pediatrician on Monday and he was down to 6 lbs. 14 oz. but he has been gaining steadily, or seemingly so since my milk came in on Tuesday. He loves spending time with daddy in the evening while mommy naps. We still have our nights and days mixed up, but mommy is learning to get some shut eye during the day. He has thoroughly enjoyed some of our visitors. What a happy baby thus far! You'll notice he has his dad's spiky rock star hair-do after his bath as well! I think you will all agree that he looks just like his daddy! What a cutie!

Cael is home now, safe and sound, and would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers!

36 1/2 weeks Ultrasound

I am 7.5 lbs. already. My mom isn't yet dilated but her cervix is 25% effaced. Mom and dad watched me yawn, swallow, and move around a lot. I am quite chubby and very content where I am! Mom is more and more uncomfortable every day and can't wait for me to be born! My nose is pretty smashed in here!

My mom had photographs taken at 33 weeks gestation....I continue to get much bigger! I am kicking all the time now! I especially like it when mom jumps on the trampoline at the gymnastics gym with her clients! It won't be long now and I will be coming into the world!

This is my ultrasound picture at 18 weeks gestation. I love to kick and my mom & dad started feeling me kick about 2-3 weeks ago. I was very camera shy during the technician's attempt to take the 3D pictures. I must get that from my mom! I have very long legs and my dad's profile. I am growing everyday and can't wait to meet everyone!
